Killed in Action, 26 September 1917 aged 19
Ted joined the 86th Infantry Citizen Force at aged 14 (1912) and also became a toffee maker for the Plaistowe confectionary company in West Perth. Too young to enlist but impassioned to do so by stories of exotic places and adventure, it is documented on his war record in a letter written by his father that Ted told his mother all sorts of stories to gain her consent for his enlistment. Mrs Rawes would also lose her youngest son Fred in WWII.
