In 1946, artist Harold Abbott completed a series of three works depicting the fall of Singapore and prisoners of war set to work on the Burma-Thailand railway, constructed with POW labour from 1942 to 1943. The paintings, "Defeat, Singapore," "On the Thailand Railway, 1" and "On the Thailand Railway, 2" form a triptych entitled "A Triptych of Suffering", and are part of the Australian War Memorial's art collection.
