Description

Cheltenham Memorial Park was established in 1933 after an increase in demand for grave sites occurred at Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery in the late 1920s. Decades later the construction of several modern mausoleums were built after plans for an on-site crematorium were not successful.

Cheltenham Memorial Park is a distinctive community cemetery characterised by stately palms, nurtured gardens, extensive lawns and ornate gazebos. The classic garden style-grounds offer a quiet sanctuary for families to reflect on the lives of their loved ones. Amongst the 20 hectares (50 acres) of manicured gardens, many adorned monuments accentuate the cemeteries proud history.

The landscaped gardens create a private place of reflection year-round, thanks to a skilled team who work tirelessly to create a place of beauty and solace. To honour the promise and commemoration over many generations, Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) cares for the daily operations of Cheltenham Memorial Park, reporting directly to the Victorian Minister for Health. SMCT is committed to supporting the community in honouring and celebrating their loved one as they choose.
