Description

Mt Thompson Memorial Gardens & Crematorium, 329 Nursery Road, Holland Park QLD 4121  (ph +61 (07) 3349 2001).

Mount Thompson  Memorial  Park holds 98,000 burials and cremations. It provides a sanctuary where reflections and thoughts can flourish and resonate in a tranquil, inviting environment. It is a place of natural, landscaped beauty, maintained by dedicated staff. A place where peace and privacy are cherished and respected.

Situated on the south side of Brisbane, this very large crematorium was established in 1934. Until 1970 it was the only crematorium serving the Brisbane area. The crematorium has two chapels; East Chapel seating 100 and the West Chapel seating 90.

It is owned and operated now by an American Company Mount Thompson Crematorium.

During WWII 1939-45,  87 members of the Australian forces were accorded the last rite of cremation (made up by 3 sailors, 62 soldiers and 22 airmen).

Sourced and submitted by Julianne T Ryan.  2 October 2014.  Lest we forget.
