Memorial Drinking Fountain

ERECTED IN ANSTEY PARK

During last week a memorial drinking fountain was erected in Anstey Park Goomalling, In memory of the following members of the services who paid the supreme sacrifice in the last war.
A. H. Anderson, N. E. Cunningham, P. E. Enright, R. Goodwin, F. L. Kemp, L. D. Melbin, E. J. Murphy, A. E. Powell, H. E. Robinson, W. P. Ryan, C. L. Silchinger, L. A. Thistlethwaite, A. W. Western, C. J. White and H. J. Williams. The fountain was erected from surplus funds subscribed to the welcome home function at the termination of hostilities.
With a large number of children using Anstey Park as their main playground during the summer months the fountain should, serve a very useful purpose, as well as perpetuating the memory of those who have passed on to higher service in the course of their duty to their king and country.
Goomalling's really big memorial —the swimming pool—is still a thing of the future but the committee in charge of raising the necessary funds is nevertheless still active in this direction. With their credit balance approaching the four figure mark they have done remarkably well. Should anyone wish to help this worthy cause along the secretary (Mr. M.B. Royal) would be only too willing to accept direct donations to the fund.

SUDDEN DEATH OF
CHARLES LOUIS
SILCHINGER.
Mingled surprise, bordering almost on disbelief, and deep regret was aroused in Goomalling late on Friday of last week, October 3rd, when it became known that Charles Louis Silchinger had passed away in hospital in Perth that day. Aged twenty, he was the youngest member of a well-known Goomalling family and had spent all his life in this district. Recently he completed a period of training as a Driver with the 3rd Field Battery at Narrogin and last Sunday played football with Australia against a visiting A I.F. team. He was in town from the farm on Thursday and although not perhaps feeling as well as he appeared to be, returned home but later in the evening became violently ill and was brought in to the Goomalling hospital. Dr. Carlin diagnosed his ailment as meningitis and advised removing the sufferer to Northam. On arrival there he was taken on to Perth by ambulance and passed away next day. Of a quiet and unassuming but pleasant personality, the late Charlie Silchinger had many friends among not only his childhood acquaintances but also among the older residents and a distinct gloom has been caused by his untimely death. Every sympathy is felt for his mother (Mrs Elsie Silchinger, widow of the late Mr. Louis Silchinger) and the family of seven sisters (Wilhemina, Frida, Louisa, Bertha, Milly, Agnes and Nota) and one brother (Joseph).
The funeral took place at 11.20 o'-clock on Monday morning, when the remains were interred in the Karrakatta cemetery.
