Description | St Georges Anglican Church; a shrine at the entrance dedicated to the 98 men who enlisted including the 29 who paid the supreme sacrifice from the church parish, was erected by F.W.G. Fray, Contractor. It comprised a tiled roof supported by two pillars and stated "was of a bungalow appearance", The frame was of red pine and the names were of gilt lettering on Blackwood slats, a light was incorporated on either side of the shrine for night illumination. At the foot of the shrine was a raised shelf for the placement of vases and flowers. The shrine was removed when renovations to the church were carried out. To the left of the entrance is a granite dedication stone. |
