Description | A bronze statue by Robert Hannaford portraying John Simpson Kirkpatrick his donkey "Murphy" and a wounded Australian soldier mounted on a granite plinth. John Simpson Kirkpatrick was a soldier in the 3rd Field Ambulance, which has a long historical association with South Australia and the Australian Army Medical Corps. This Memorial was commissioned by a committee comprised of South Australian Defence Health Services veterans as a tribute to their colleagues past present and future. South Australia has a proud history of providing a disproportionately large number of medical personnel to Australia's defence commitments overseas in wartime, on peacekeeping operations and in humanitarian relief operations. |
