Mount Gambier RSL Sub Branch Museum.
Mounted on the northern wall of the RSL Sub Branch Museum
This is a community tribute without peer. It incorporates the photographs and names of 480 people from the Mount Gambier district who enlisted and served in WW1.
This Pictorial Honour Roll is the largest of its kind encountered in the process of cataloguing the State's Memorial assets. We are currently in the process of digitising its content.
Two large timber framed glass fronted Pictorial Honour Rolls, each with 4 columns of photographs in 12 rows and 6 columns less some image spaces, the position of which is displaced by a shield
Each photograph is numbered 1-240 in each of the two frames ('Left' and 'Right'), totaling some 480 persons in all.
The index lists the names by left and right frame, in alphabetical order, Rank initials and surname and a number corresponding to an index on each image.
Each frame has a centred wooden shield with a metallic plaque topped by an enameled Australian flag and engraved with an inscription.
CONTENT UNDER DEVELOPMENT
The names will be progressively added to this site once they are indexed and cross referenced to the VWM main WW1 database. The photographs will be reproduced and added to the database file for the respective service person, and the index reference to the Pictorial Honour Roll retained.
