Description

A painted cement concrete obelisk commemorates those who served in World War One.

Heavy rain fell at the hour fixed for the combined service at the site of the newly erected War Memorial, near the junction of the main and Pine roads, at Penguin, but there was a large attendance to witness the unveiling of the Memorial, and to join in the solemn Anzac Day service.

All parts of the distrlct, as well as Burnie, Ulverstone, Devonport, and Smithton, were represented in the gathering round the imposing memorial. The Warden said that he had been asked to unveil the memorial erected by the citizens of the municipality in remembrance of those who served in the Great War. The memorial is of striking design, well carried out by the contractor, Mr. M. A. Webster, Penguin, is built of cement concrete, and stands about 18ft. high.
Examiner (Launceston), 28th April 1926.
