Description

The memorial comprises a tall red granite column rising from a massive granite and trachyte pedestal and crowned by a marble ionic capital and life-sized statue of an Australian soldier. The statue stands head bowed, arms reversed and carrying a backpack. The total height is 38 feet. The pedestal bears the cut and gilded names of one local soldier who served in the South Africa (or Boer) War and the 277 who served in WWI. Commemorative plates for later conflicts have been added to the pedestal. The monument is surrounded by concrete kerbing.

Bundaberg War Memorial pedestal bears the cut and gilded names of one local soldier who served and fell in the South Africa (Boer) War and the 277 who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.

Commemorative plates for later conflicts have been added to the pedestal to commemorate those who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War Two, Korea, Malaya, Borneo & South Vietnam. The Bundaberg War Memorial was incomplete when it was first unveiled on ANZAC Day 1921, as the statue had not arrived from Italy.

**** Names at top of each column may not be included as they were unreadable - and panel M-TA also yet to be added as unreadable from photograph - asking for assistance with clear photographs from Council *****
