Description

A granite obelisk 20ft 6 inches high, bears a tablet on each face containing the names of those killed and those who enlisted from the district. Protruding at right angles from each tablet is a crouching lion, carved in South African white marble.

The memorial contains the names of 199 men who returned including two Victoria Cross recipients under the heading "The Brave". On another brass plate the names of the 57 who paid the supreme sacrifice are inscribed.

Most of the town was burnt to the ground in massive bush fires on 6 January 2016. The memorial still stands.
