Location Glebe Road & Kendrick Street, The Junction, New South Wales, Australia
Type memorial
Description

The monument originally sat in the middle of a triangle section of land bounded by Kenrick Street, Glebe Road and Corlette Street. Corlette street between Kenrick Street and Glebe Road has since been closed. The monument sits on a sandstone base six steps above street level white marble columns and inlays. A white marble soldier stand of the top of the monument. (R McLardy)

The monument was significantly damaged in the earthquake of 1989

The Junction War memorial was designed by the firm of Wallace L Porter, along with the Jefferson Park memorial. Both memorials were designed in 1919. According to Clarrie Sara, quoted in Les Reedman's thesis on the history of Newcastle architects, the base of the war memorial was designed by William Dobell. He is quoted by Reedman as saying, "Dobell designed the base of the World War I memorial at The Junction. That's Wal Porter's job and Bill drew it up. I told Bill there was something wrong with the proportions" (Reedman, 1961).
