Description

Queensland maple frame, timber backing, hand crafted, designed and executed by Messrs. W. Bennett and Sons, of Charlton Street, Wickham, N.S.W. It stands 10 feet high, 4 feet wide, 190 names inscribed with 201 names later inscribed, a total of 391 names, a magnificent achievement.

On the 26th February 1916, the 1st of 2 Roll of Honour boards was unveiled in the Wickham Council Chambers, to honour 190 soldiers of the district serving in the Great War. Also, the foundation stone of a memorial to those who fell was laid at the front of the chambers (unveiled on the 24th May 1916, 7 names were inscribed to those who had fallen during the war, 87 names later inscribed).

The Council Chambers was packed to the verge of suffocation to witness the unveiling, a fine piece of artistic workmanship.
