The Poppy Sculpture
Inspired by wild red poppies which grew in the former
battlefields of France and Belgium, this sculpture was
constructed locally in 2015 as part of the district's
commemoration of the Centenary of World War 1.
Although it was created to honour the Inverell District men
who took part in the great Kurrajong recruiting drive of
1916, the sculpture represents the one in five local men
who did not return from the War, irrespective of when and
where they served.
