Description

Foster Soldiers' Memorial, which is in temple design, with four pillars and cap of Harcourt granite on granite base, supported on a massive double concrete base.

His Excellency the Governor (the Earl of Stradbroke) arrived in Foster by train yesterday. He was met and welcomed by the shire president (Councillor F. Fisher), who presented him with an address of welcome on behalf of the shire council and residents. There was a very large attendance. His Excellency replied, thanking the people for the welcome extended to him. After lunch Lord Stradbroke unveiled the Foster Soldiers' Memorial, which is in temple design, with four pillars and cap of Harcourt granite on granite base, supported on a massive double concrete base. The monument is erected in the centre of the main street at its intersection with Station road.

Councillor Fisher, who introduced the Governor, explained that the monument was erected in honour of 355 soldiers who had enlisted from the district and served in the Great War, 22 of whom had fallen.
