Description

In the plantation divider in a small garden. A white marble statue of a soldier standing at ease with a tree trunk supporter behind the right leg surmounted on a capped polished granite pedestal. A slab of uncut granite sections the pedestal. The pedestal is set on a two-tier pink granite and three-tier grey granite base. All details are in gold leaf.

The local paper described the unveiling on Sunday 19th November 1922, and lists the names of the men. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/199111054

The VWMA site for the memorial lists 86 names. There are many more as shown in the photos and in the newspaper report – 111 of whom 30 died.

The front face shows those who died while the 2 sides have the others who enlisted. The rear face names 3 YMCA workers.
