THE AREA FROM THE POST OFFICE TO THE SUBWAY WAS SET ASIDE AFTERTHE FIRST WORLD WAR AS A MEMORIAL TO THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE THEIRLIVES IN THAT WAR.THESE KURRAJONG TREES (BRACHYCHITON POPULNEUS) WERE PLANTED INOCTOBER 1943 AND DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES INACTION DURING WORLD WAR 2.IT IS KNOWN AS WAR MEMORIAL GROVE AND HAS PLAQUESAT THE BASE OF THE TREES IN MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THEPETERBOROUGH AREA WHO WERE KILLED IN ACTION FROM1939-1945.THIS PLAQUE WAS MADE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE GENEROUSSPONSORSHIP OF THE PETERBOROUGH RSL |
