Description | Mounted in the RAAFA / Combined Services Mess 1st Floor: A white Nottingham Lace Panel, 4.57 metres long, 1.64 metres wide; enclosed behind a Perspex cover in the ceiling of the dining room. The panel depicts the air action during the Battle of Britain. At the top is a ribband; below this are the badges of the Commonwealth Air Forces and centrally the RAF badge. The panel is divided into three sections, either side of the centre section are panels depicting buildings in the blitz. In the centre section at the top, is a ribband in flames, below this are depicted combat aircraft in air battles with pilots parachuting from destroyed aircraft. At the base of the centre panel is St. Pauls Cathedral over a ribband. |
