Tenambit Soldiers Memorial

Details

Location Tenambit Public School, Edward Street, Tenambit, Maitland Municipality - New South Wales, Australia
Type memorial
Description

Granite obelisk on a sandstone base with raised laurel wreath.

Tenambit Public School was established in 1902 and the WW1 memorial was unveiled in 1924 - it carries 19 names. It is located at the front of the public school with open street access. The justification/qualification for the names on the memorial is varied and unclear - several are of ex-school pupils whilst others, it seems, are sons/relatives of residents in the area at the time who would appear (in some cases) to have only indirect attachment to the suburb or the school.
