"Wogolin Roll of Honour
The Wogolin Roll of Honour was unveiled on 2nd August 1917 and contains the names of 75 soldiers who enlisted for World War 1 from Wogolin and the surrounding areas of Jitarning, Walyurin, East Dorakin, Traysurin and Dudinin. The Great Southern Leader reported on 31st August 1917 about the unveiling ceremony: “After the large crowd had assembled … to do honour to our brave and heroic men it was noticed that two young ladies, Miss M. Price and Miss Myrtle Farr (both of whom have brothers serving in France) were standing on either side of the Roll of Honour ready to pull the cords which held the flags covering the board. The President of the Dudinin-Dorakin Progress Association (Mr. W. McInnes) after a short address called on Mr. E. B. Johnston, M.L.A., to perform the important ceremony. Mr. Johnston … eulogized the bravery and heroism of the men for whom we had assembled to do honour. He also paid a high tribute to the Dudinin District for the part it had taken in the war. … Mr. Johnston then called on Miss Farr and Miss Price to remove the veiling. … Mr. Johnston then read out the (48) names on the board one by one. He also read out a list containing 27 names which were still to go on, making in all 75 names.” Of the 75 men listed on the Wogolin Roll of Honour 31 lost their lives in the war and two are as yet unidentified. It is interesting to note that three of the names do not appear on the Wickepin District Roll of Honour, another three appear with differing initials and numerous other last names are spelled differently. The Wogolin Roll of Honour was originally hung in the Wogolin Agricultural Hall, and is now displayed at the Dudinin Hall."
