Swimming Pool

An appeal for £20,000 has been launched in Horsham for the establishment of the Bolton Park War Memorial Youth Centre, which will embrace a swimming pool. In addition a long range plan will include tennis courts, playing arena, library, gymnasium, and cafeteria. The city engineer, Mr C. Vaughan has prepared elaborate plans. The land was donated to the Council by the Bolton family plus £200 for tree planting. Apex Club's carnival which concluded last week raised £1500. The Wimmera Shire Council has been asked to assist.

It was eight years since World War 2 ended and Horsham did not have a war memorial. The President of the Horsham Sub-Branch of the Returned Service men's League (Mr. W. Neville) said this at a Bolton Park War Memorial Youth Centre Committee meeting on Wednesday night. He stressed that the youth centre and swimming pool on the Bolton Park site would be a war memorial and people seemed to be losing sight of this. Mr Neville said that about 50 from the Horsham District who had enlisted in World War Two had been killed. The Treasurer (Mr. B.R. Seddon) said the response to the appeal had been disappointing.
