Description

4 pillar gates with white marble plaques

The Governor, Sir Matthew Nathan unveiled the soldiers' memorial gates at Lawnton, North Pine, on July 28 1923. The gates, which were at the entrance to the showground, cost £325 and were funded by donations from the residents of the Pine Rivers district. On each of the stone pillars are marble tablets, one bearing a dedication inscription and the other the names of 28 soldiers from the district that died in World War I. His Excellency presented the wives and mothers of the men who lost their lives in the Great War with badges of life membership, on behalf of the Pine River's Show Society.
The gates were moved to the Pine Rivers RSL and Services Memorial Club (now Norths Leagues and Services Club) at Kallangur in 1986.
