GERALDTON CITY BAND.
HONOUR BOARD UNVEILED.
Attracted by the fine evening there was a very large gathering on the Esplanade Pier on Sunday evening, when the Geraldton City Band gave a recital, additional interest being given to the proceedings by the unveiling of the Honour Board on which the names of the members of the band, who have volunteered for active service, are commemorated. The band, under the conductorship of Mr Charles Lupp, went through a choice selection of items, all of which were heartily appreciated. Their work, considering that so many of the bandsmen are only comparatively young and recent additions to the strength, reflected very great credit, not only upon their own enthusiasm, but upon the careful training given them, of which they have taken every advantage. The President of the Band, Mr W. E. Randle, unveiled the board, and pointed out that the band, whose maximum membership never exceeded 45, had contributed 39 men to the fighting forces. They regretted the deaths of four, E. Kendrick, F. Thomas, C. Fairbeard and W. Groesseler, who had made the supreme sacrifice in fighting the common foe.
They hoped that the remainder would be spared to return to Geraldton. The honour board would be a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made by these gallant young men, and would keep their memory green amongst their fellow citizens. The 'Last Post' was then sounded, and the band played the 'Dead March'
The following are the names on the board:
J. Keating, D. H. Scott, C. Fairbeard, W. Hale, J. Mills, W. E. Wansborough, B. Easther, J. Fox, J. Thompson, W. O'Neil, W. Groessler, F. Dunn, F. Thomas, F. Pascoe, L. Robertson, Norman Constantine, H. Warwicker, A. Ferstat, W. Kendrick, E. Kendrick, W. Fathers, F. Ashton, F. Groessler, L. Ramshaw, E. Robertson, H. Groessler, W. Wright, F. Kidd, J. O'Connor, T. Keating, E. Fathers, C. Wright, P. Hepburn, W. Bradley, H. Ramshaw, F. Wright and P. Creeper.
It is expected that further additions will be necessary. The board
was executed by Mr G. Lester, the secretary of the band, and is a
handsome piece of work.
