Tanunda lies 70km NE of Adelaide and is a key town in South Australia's Barossa Valley.  It is acknopwledged as the Barossa's historic heart.  Settled by German refugees fleeing religious persecution in their native Silesia in eastern Germany, based around the original settlement at nearby Bethany in 1854,  Tanunda soon developed as the centre of winemaking in the Barossa Valley.

Chateau Tanunda (main image) is an iconic structure associated with the town since its early days.

It has a rich assoication with Australia's engagement in conflict evidenced by the number of memorials located in the town and environs.  It is made particularly interesting by the fact that so many people of German ancestry enlisted in both World Wars, with German being a key protagonist in both.
