The Virtual War Memorial Australia Excellence Award provides young South Australians with the opportunity to conduct exemplary research into the lives of Australian service personnel in World War One and Two.
The award is open to all South Australian students in Years 9 and 10.
History of the award
This prize has been conducted since 2020. Students who are successful are invited to a ceremony to receive their certificate, medal, and meet with dignitaries.
The selection process is based on an assessment of the standard of excellence achieved in the research project undertaken through the Research Project component of the Schools Program. The Schools Program Manager is responsible for reviewing eligible submissions and recommending individual students for an award. The VWMA Chief Executive Officer will review each recommendation and finalise the list of award recipients.
2025 VWMA Excellence Award
The prize is open to South Australian students in either year 9 and 10 who have undertaken the requisite work and submitted it for publication on VWMA.
Teacher Award
Based on feedback from the Schools Program Manager a teacher or teaching team may be recognised for their expertise and inspiration in the classroom; for passionate promotion of the importance of history or for championing the value of the VWMA Schools Program within their school or the creation and implementation of a whole of community project.
Ceremony
The award ceremony takes place in Semester 1 of the following year. Held during the week after school, students, teachers, parents, and dignitaries celebrate the dedication and exemplary efforts of the awardees.
