Indigenous Service People

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people please be aware that this resource contains images and names of deceased people.

In times of conflict, everyday people Get Up, Stand Up and Show Up for their country. Indigenous servicemen and women have proudly served in all services across the major armed conflicts over the last 123 years. Our First Nation’s servicepeople overcame the discriminatory enlistment standards of the early conflicts to stand up and show up when Australia needed them most. They continue to serve with pride today.

Virtual War Memorial Australia has a growing collection of tribute profiles which honour and commemorate the service and sacrifice of the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders who have served. Be inspired by their stories and commitment to their country. The curated collection can be viewed below.
