John Henry WILLENBROCK was born in Whitechapel, London on 16th April, 1888

His parents were Friedrich (Frederick) WILLENBROCK & Caroline HEIMANN who married in London in 1884

Previously he had served for  a year and a half in the City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) and 3 years as 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles  in New Zealand,  before he enlisted in Bundaberg, Queensland on 27th August, 1914 and embarked from Brisbane on the HMAT Star of England on 24th September, 1914 with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, C Squadron

He was promoted to Sergeant on 29th December, 1915, to 2nd Lieutenant on 12th March, 1916 and Commissioned to be a Lieutenant with the 49th Infantry Battalion where he had transferred to on 15th March 1916

John was Killed in Action in France on 5th April, 1918 - no known grave - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Villers Bretonneux Memorial
