LIEUT.-COL. ERNEST HERROD
He is second son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Herrod, of Kensington, for many years residents of Redfern, and his wife, resides at Wentworth-street, Parramatta. He enlisted in August, 1914, and left as signalling officer in October, 1914. He received his second star at the Gallipoli landing, and was promoted to captain in September, 1915, and major in October, 1916.
He was awarded the decoration of the White Eagle, 5th class, by the King of Servia in recognition of distinguished services during the M.E.F. campaign, and was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's despatch of January, 1917, for "distinguished and gallant services in the field."
He was made lieutenant-colonel in May, 1917, and given command of a battalion.
