Son of William Gilchrist of Dardgavel, Scotland
At the time of enlistment he was employed as a stockmon on S. Kidman & Co. Eringa Station, Kapunda, SA
On 13 November 1920 Andrew married Jean Anderson in the Congregational Church, Kapunda, SA
Commenced return to Australia on 24 January 1919 aboard HT Delta disembarking on the 9 March 1919
