Son of James Orth and Julia Madeline nee Sherdrake of St Kilda Street, Elsternwick, Victoria.
Brother of Frank Alexander Orth who returned to Australia on 4 March 1919 havings served with the 30th Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 25 September 1915 aboard HT Ceramic disembarking on 17 October 1915
