August Fredrick Pobke, born in 1894 and died on the 9th of December 1965 (at the age of 71). He was the son of Mrs Augusta Pobke. He was a Motor Driver at Teal Flat (Murray River) before he enlisted. August Fredrick Pobke enlisted on the 23rd March 1916 at the age of 22. He fought with the 32nd Infantry Battalion, 7th Reinforcement. The Australian Army's 32nd Unit was an infantry battalion. It was formed in 1915 as part of the all-volunteer Australian Imperial Force for action during World War I and was initially made up of South Australian and Western Australian men. Unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A57 'Lalakuta' on 27 June 1916, serving on the Western Front.
He spent much of 1917 ill in hospital or recovering from illness, but returned to duty in France in 1918. On 2 May 1918 he was wounded in both arms and soent more time in hospital.
He survived the war and returned to Australia on 10th of June 1919. His eyes hazel, hair dark with a height of 5 feet 4 1/2 inches and he weighed 136 Ibs. August was buried on 15 March 1966, at the Centennial Park Cemetery in South Australia.
