Graham was born in 1926. He is the son of Edmund Dawes and Elizabeth Berry. Graham was born in 1926. While he was at school he would ride his push bike to a local farm and pick potatoes. He worked for the Post Master General for a long time. He married Patricia May Lynch. He was in the navy in 16/1/1945 No 7953 as a Steward and served onboard HMAS Tarangua until discharged in 18/11/1946, he sailed through the Pacific Islands and was in England where he visited family. Graham was awarded five medals whilst in the Navy. They were:

He built their first home in Pearson St, Bunyip next to his mothers home. He then renovated the family home in Beveridge where he obtained a job with The PMG delivering mail to Wallan and Darraweit Guim while Pat looked after the Beveridge local store and operated the telephone exchange. They had four children who were all born in Warragul Hospital - all girls - Sandra, Christine, Maureen (Twins) and Maxine. The family later moved to Frankston. He worked for a fencing contractor. In his later life he owned Harrow store in Victoria with his second wife Maree Rosa for a few years. The family then moved to Queensland where they had the local post office in Tin Can Bay and then they moved to a small country town Apple Tree Creek in retirement. He passed away in 2011 at Apple Tree Creek, Queensland
