William was the son of Percy Henry Adams and Georgina Caroline Bradfield and brother of Arthur Edward Adams [129]. His father was Redcliffe Shire Clerk from 1913 to 1928. William joined the Australian Navy in 1912 just prior to the First World War. His record shows that he was on the HMAS Australia when it led the new Australian Fleet into Sydney Harbour on 4 October 1913. After leaving the Navy, William married Lillian Marjory Sells in 1923. He and Lillian lived in Brisbane until about 1958 when they retired to Scarborough.
