Fred was born in Adelaide 3 Oct 1876, son of Frederick Choat and Martha Ann Miller.

He enlisted in Townsville on 21 Sep 1914, Sergeant 430, and served with the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance

He embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT A30 ‘Borda” on 15 Dec 1914. He served in Egypt and Gallipoli, and was invalided back to Australia 11 Apr 1916 with acute bronchitis and myocarditis. 

He was discharged 7 Jul 1916.  He also served in the AN&MEF 16 Aug - 6 Sep 1914, sailing on the ”Kanowna” to Thursday Island and back to Townsville. His occupation was wardsman and labourer, and he resided in McIntosh Street, Hermit Park, Townsville. He died 28 Dec 1938.
