Alex Johnston of Strathbogie Victoria was wounded in action on 7 January 1917, shrapnel in the buttock, and was evacuated to England. He rejoined his unit in April 1917 and was severely wounded in both thighs at Bullecourt on 3 May 1917. He died of his wounds 25 days later, in a General Hospital in Boulogne.
His older brother James Johnston was killed in action a few months later on 10 July 1917.
