Signalman Albert Lewis (Service No:WX12268) enlisted in the Australian Army on 2 May 1941 and served in the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo. Signalman Lewis was attached to Signals 9 Australian Division when he was Discharged on 4 December 1945. Sibling James Sinclair Lewis (Service Nos:WX30872/W23992) also served in WWII.
Born in 1918 in Perth WA, Albert (with twin sister Jean) was the fourth of six children of Albert Henry Lewis (b1887 in Perth, WA) and Jean McLeod (b1891 in Condah, Victoria). Albert Snr (a Railways Employee) and Jean married in 1910 in Perth, WA where they settled and raised their family.
Albert worked as a Plasterer in Perth WA and was in Ballarat, Victoria in 1944 when he married Joyce Winifred Walder (b1920 in Watchem, Victoria) - Albert was in the Army and Joyce worked as a Machinist and Munitions Worker. Following his Discharge, Albert was not employed and Joyce worked as a Presser before the couple moved to Warracknabeal, Victoria in 1949 and Albert worked as a Plasterer. In the early 1960's the couple moved to Perth WA where Albert worked as a Plasterer. In 1974 Albert's twin Jean was killed when Cyclone Tracey devastated Darwin NT. Albert and Joyce settled in Perth WA where Albert was a Plasterer. Albert died in 1984 and Joyce in 2006.
