Mervyn Gladstone Harris

MERVYN GLADSTONE HARRIS (1897-1917), born at Argolong, son of James and Mary Harris nee Boyd. Mervyn enlisted on May 10th, 1916 as Private 6228, 2nd Battalion at Cootamundra. After training at Liverpool he embarked on the Euripedes on September 9th, and arrived in Plymouth on December 26th. He was then sent to France where he was wounded by an exploding shell on April 15h. He received an injury to his left elbow and treated at a Casualty Clearing Station. Then in the Battle of Ypres on September 18th, 1917 he was Killed in Action – no known grave. His name appears on the Menin Gate at Ypres and panel 32 Australian War Memorial. As a matter of general interest, one other passenger on the Euripedes was A. B Banjo Paterson. [DAVIS OF GOUNYAN - ROLL OF HONOUR - BM Pittman]
