Son of James Viant and Eliza Viant nee Kay of Bowden, SA.
Husband of Vera Emily Viant nee Griffen of Angas Street, Adelaide, SA. William and Vera married on 9 July 1912 in the Methodist Manse, Morphett Street, Adelaide, SA.
Commenced return to Australia on 15 February 1918 aboard HS Llanstephen Castle disembarking on 16 April 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Adelaide.
