Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Born in Northam WA in 1926, John was the youngest of  five children of Dudley Grant Carter (b1887 in New Zealand) and first wife Eileen (Elly) Mary Simons (b1890 in Clare, South Australia). Dudley (a Draper in Collie WA) and Elly married in 1910 in Fremantle WA. Dudley served in the British Army in WWI (Lieutenant; 88th Infantry) and by 1923 the family had returned to WA and settled in Northam where Dudley was a Draper. The family made several trips to England - Dudley was a Merchant - and following Elly's death in 1926, Dudley remarried.

John was in Moora WA in 1944 when he enlisted in the RAAF (Leading Aircraftman; Service No:84852) and was attached to RAAF Station HQ Laverton when he was Discharged in March 1946. Brother Dudley (Driver; Service Nos:WX29607/W7747) also served in WWII.

John settled in Perth WA following his Discharge and was working as a Compositor in 1948 when he married Miriam (Bunny) Brenda Summers (b1929 in Malaya). The couple settled in Perth WA where John worked as a Compositor. Bunny died in 2008 and John in 2013.
