Biography

"Funeral of Dr. W. G. H. Tregear

The funeral of the late Mr. William George Herbert Tregear, who was a member of the committee of general purposes of the Supreme Grand Chapter of Victoria, was largely attended by Masonic brethren, members of the medical profession and personal friends at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, yesterday afternoon. As the cortege passed St. George's Hospital in Cotham- road, Kew, the sisters and nurses of the hospital formed a guard of honor. Rev. Joseph Briggs, past grand chaplain, conducted a family service at "Casa Mura," Deepdene, and read the Masonic service at the graveside. Rev. J. H. Cain, of Wesley church, conducted the church service at the cemetery. In his address Mr. Cain referred to the doctor's work, not only as a citizen and surgeon, but also to his work among the soldiers in Palestine during the Great War.

The pall bearers were:— Most Wor. Bro. W. Warren Kerr, Pro. Grand Master; Most Em. Comp. C. T. Martin, First Grand Principal; Very Em. Bro. Geo. Emery, Grand Principal of Knights Templar; Right Wor. Bro. D. J. A. D. Nisli, Dep. Grand Master Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons; Very Wor. Bro. F. E. Bellmalne. Past Pres. Board of Benevolence; Dr. H. F. Holmes, of Warrnambool; Messrs. S. Wilson, W. Stewart, Gallager and Beattie. The chief mourners were:— Mr. Alfred Tregear, brother; Rev. George Tregear, Messrs. W. H. Tregear, Gregory Tregear, Langford Jones, Stewart Brown, Harry and Phil Williams. Funeral arrangements were carried out by Le Pine and Son Pty, Ltd.

Death of Dr. Tregear's Mother.

When Dr. Tregear suddenly collapsed and died at his home at Deepdene last Saturday afternoon, the only person in the house at the time was his mother, who was 70 years of age. Mrs. Tregear suffered a severe shock and became ill. She never really recovered from the shock of her son's sudden death, and last night, at her daughter's residence in Ascot Vale, she died. Her husband predeceased her some time ago." - from the Melbourne Age 18 Dec 1935 (nla.gov.au)
