Warrant Officer George Ronald Goddard (Service No:441672) initially enlisted in the Army at eighteen years of age (having given an incorrect DoB). Private Goddard (Service Nos:WX31960/W64737) enlisted in the ACMF on 26 May 1942 and served with 13 Training Battalion and 11th Field Salvage Unit before transferring to the AIF on 13 August 1942. Private Goddard was attached to 3 Corps Salvage at Discharge on 30 November 1943.

He then enlisted in the RAAF on 4 December 1943 as an Aircraftman II attached to No 2 Initial Training School (ITS) Clontarf - mustered as Air Gunner. In February 1944 he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman and to Sergeant on 12 May 1944. On 1 July 1944 Sergeant Goddard embarked from Sydney for the UK, where he served with No 27 Operational Training Unit (OTU), No 5 Lancaster Finishing School (LFS), 463 Squadron (completed nine (Bomber) sorties with 463 Squadron in Lancaster aircraft), and 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit. Promoted to Flight Sergeant on 12 November 1944, he embarked from the UK for Perth on 22 October 1945, and on 12 November 1945 was promoted to Warrant Officer. WO Goddard served with 21 Squadron in 1946, and was attached to Station HQ Pearce at Discharge on 2 March 1948.

Born in 1925 in Perth WA, Ron was eldest of ten children of George Edward Goddard (b1902 in Brunswick, Victoria) and Audrey Phyllis Browning (b1905 in London, England) - Audrey immigrated in 1913, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Australind. George (an Ironmonger) and Audrey married in 1924 in Perth, WA where they lived until the 1930s when they moved to Katanning and George worked as a Labourer. In the late 1930s the family returned to Perth, where George worked as a Labourer, Motor Assembler and Process Worker.

Ron started work as a Milk Carter, and in his RAAF application gave his occupation as Butcher. Ron was in Ipswich, QLD in 1946 when he married Grace Marion Collett (b1925 in Ipswich, QLD), and following his Discharge in 1948, he and Grace settled in Perth where Ron worked as a Truck Driver and later as a Painter. Ron died in 1988 and Grace in 2012.
