Corporal Freda Lillian Jackman (nee Hingston; Service No:TF150155) enlisted in the AWAS as a Private on 5 November 1942 - appointed Cook (AWAS Training Depot). Promoted on 27 March 1944, Corporal Jackman was attached to HQ Tasmania LoC Area at Discharge on 6 September 1945.
Lily was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1913, sixth of nine children of Hubert William Henry Hingston (b1878 in Westbury, Tasmania) and Marion Blanche Trethewie (b1881 at White Hills, Tasmania). Hubert was a Farmer at White Hills in 1902 when he and Marion married - they settled at White Hills, where they raised their family and Hubert was a Farmer.
Lily was living at home on the farm at White Hills in 1943 when she enlisted in the Army. In 1945 in Launceston, Lily married Frank Rice Jackman (b1905 in Launceston, Tasmania) - Frank was also a Cook in the Army (Private; Service Nos:T24531/TX13443). Following Discharge, Lily and Frank settled in Hobart (Moonah). where they raised their family and Frank was a Gardener. Frank died in 1982 and Lily in 2007).
