Younger of the two brothers (Hector and Leslie) who served in WWII, Sergeant Leslie Gordon Hallam (Sevice No:VX43710) enlisted in the AIF on 2 July 1940 as a Private attached to 10th Training Battalion, and on 21 September 1940 transferred to 2/14th Battalion - graded Cook. Private Hallam served with 2/32nd Battalion in the Middle East (8 April 1941 - 6 March 1943) and in New Guinea (7 August 1943 - 22 February 1944). Sergeant Hallam was attached to Australian Army Catering Corps (AACC) at Discharge on 19 July 1945 (Medically Unfit).
Jack was born in Warracknabeal, Victoria in 1910, youngest of four children of Frederick (Fred) Ernest Hallam (b1875 in Werrigar via Warracknbeal, Victoria) and Ellen (Helen) Elizabeth Payne (b1882 in Melbourne, Victoria). Fred and Helen married in 1902 in Warracknabeal, where they settled and raised their family and Fred worked as a Farm Hand and Labourer.
Jack worked as a Labourer in Warracknabeal, where in 1933 he married his first wife Edna Colonia Laurel Jones (b1915 in Warracknabeal, Victoria). Jack and Edna settled in Warracknabeal, where they raised their family and Jack worked as a Labourer. Edna died in 1940, and Jack was a Widower that year when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge from the Army, Jack returned to Warracknbeal, and in the early 1950s was with Adelaide Myrtle Josephine Carter (nee Lockwood; b1909 in George Town, Tasmania) - Adelaide was a Widower living in Warracknabeal. Jack and Leslie setted in Werrigar via Warracknabeal and in Warracknabeal, where they raised their family and Jack worked as a Labourer. Adelaide died in 1984 and Jack died in 1987.
