Major Walter Douglas Seale (Service No:WX28759) initially served in the Militia as a Lieutenant ('Mr Seale is well known in militia circles in Perth, being an officer of the 11th-16th battalion' - Trove:1935). He enlisted in the ACMF as a Captain (Service No:W7145) and served with 11th Infantry Battalion from 1 October 1941 to 6 July 1942. Captain Seale was seconded to 13th Infantry Brigade and transferred to the AIF on 7 July 1942. Promoted to Major in August 1944, he served in New Guinea (Lae, Morotai) from 29 March 1945 to 10 December 1945 and was attached to Adv HQ AMF when his appointment was terminated on 3 January 1946.
Walter was born in Fremantle, WA in 1907, third of five children of Frederick (Fred) Hayne Seale (b1878 in Napier, New Zealand) and Ethel (Nora) Leonora Nathan (b1882 in Numurkah, Victoria). Fred (a Clerk) and Nora married in 1903 in Kalgoorlie, WA and settled in Fremantle where they raised their family and Fred worked as a Clerk and Machinery and Correspondence Clerk for Mssrs George Wilke and Co. By 1916 the family was living in Katanning, where Fred was a Machinery Agent - applying to enlist in the AIF in 1918. The family returned to Perth in the early 1920s and Fred worked as a Travelling Salesman until his death in 1931.
Walter joined Pearl Assurance Co Ltd in Perth where he was an Insurance Manager and Attorney for the company. Walter also served in the Militia as a Lieutenant with 11th/16th Infantry Battalions. In 1935 in Perth, Walter married Mons Carruthers Crofts (b1907 in Fremantle, WA) and the couple settled in Perth where they raised their family and Walter was an Insurance Manager and Broker. Walter and Mons were divorced in 1967 and Walter remarried (Barbara Topping) in 1974 in Perth. Walter died in 1989.
