Son of William Overend and Mary Ann Overend of Bungendore, NSW.
Brother of Thomas Edward Overend who returned to Australia on 27 August 1917 having served with the 56th Battalion; David Henry Overend who returned to Australia on 20 August 1919 having served with the 55th Battalion and the 5th Machine Gun Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 18 January 1919 aboard HT Orsova disembarking on 3 March 1919
