Australian Peter JENSEN (Service Number 2479) was born on 26th January 1880 in Drummoyne, Sydney. He began working with the Railways on 14th December 1915 at Eveleigh Locomotive Workshops. He worked as a boilermakers’ assistant. He was given leave to join the AIF on 22nd January 1916. He was 36 when he enlisted.

He embarked at Sydney on HMAT ‘Anchises’ on 14th March 1916. He disembarked at Suez (Egypt) on 15th April 1916. On 6th June 1916 he embarked at Alexandria for England. He disembarked at Plymouth (England) ten days later. After staying in England for a while, he embarked overseas to France, and marched in to Etaples on 6th September 1916. He joined his unit on 19th September,.

However he wasn’t in the field long before he was taken to hospital sick. He was admitted for dental treatment on 29th September 1916. He re-joined his Battalion from the hospital on 8th October. 

He was killed in action on 7th October 1916. He was buried in the AIF Burial Ground, Flers, Picardie, France, in plot 1, row K, grave 15.

After his death, his wife was sent some of his personal items, such as a diary, a wallet, and cards. She was also sent the British War Medal and the Victory Medal on behalf of her husband’s service.
