"THE LATE PRIVATE J. NEARY.
Mrs. W. Kelly, of Solomontown, Port Pirie, has received word that her son, Private John Neary, was killed in action in France on August 26. He was 20 years of age, and was born at Port Pirie, where he lived until he enlisted in June, 1915. He was employed at the B.H.A. smelters prior to enlisting, and was very popular with his fellow-workers." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 21 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)
