Corporal Sydney Thomas Coles (Service No:W18631) enlisted in the ACMF on 9 September 1941 and was attached to General Details Depot (GDD) Staff at Discharge on 18 July 1943. 

Born in 1889 in Warwickshire England, Sydney was the third of five children of William Henry Coles (b1865 in Birmingham, Warwickshire) and Sarah Skett (b1863 in Bobbington, Staffordshire). William (a Tram Conductor) and Sarah married in 1887 in Bordesley, Warwickshire and lived in Birmingham where William was a Tram/Cable Car Driver.

Sydney served in the British Army as a Gunner with the Royal Field Artillery and served in France and India. In 1915 he married Florence Revell in Sculcoates, Yorkshire and in 1927 Sydney and his family was in Calcutta, India (Lieutenant Sergeant) when they immigrated, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Shirala. Sydney and his family lived initially at Denmark WA where Sydney was a Settler before relocating to Albany WA where Sydney was a Clerk. Sydney was a member of the 'Old Contemptibles' and active in RSL matters. Sydney died in 1945 and Florence in 1982.
