Youngest of three brothers who served in the Army (Stan and Harold served in WWI), Sergeant Wilfred Robert Bushby (Service Nos:W14440/WX28815) initially served in the ACMF as a Private attached to 118 Australian General Hospital (AGH) Northam (8 November 1941 - 16 August 1942), and was a Corporal when he enlisted 'in the field' at Northam in the AIF on 17 August 1942. Sergeant Bushby was attached to 2/105 and 137 Australian General Transport Coys AAMC, and served in Morotai in 1945. Sergeant Bushby was attached to HQ 2/105 Australian General Transport Coy AAMC at Discharge on 25 February 1946.

Wilfred was born in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1914, youngest of six children of William James Bushby (b1868 in Cumbria, England) and Sarah (Annie) Jane Buhl (b1872 in West Maitland, New South Wales). William immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1880, and was a Carpenter in West Maitland in 1895 when he and Annie married. By 1912 William and Annie had settled in Fremantle, Western Australia where they raised their family and William was a Carpenter.

Wilfred was a Registered Nurse and Masseur in Fremantle when he enlisted in the Army. In 1943 in Prospect, South Australia he married Ruth Mary Anderson (b1921 in Mannum, South Australia) - Ruth moved to Northam, where Wilfred was posted to the Military Hospital, before returning to South Australia for the birth of their first child in 1944. Following his Discharge from the Army, Wilfred and Ruth settled in South Australia, where they raised their family. Wilfred was a Civil Servant - with the Department of Supply, Weapons Research Establishment and with the Department of Defence. Following retirement in the late 1970s, Wilfred and Ruth moved to Cooranbong at Lake Macquarie in New South Wales. Wilfred died in 2001 and Ruth in 2013.
