28 Sep 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Battle of Messines, For bravery in the field on the night of 15/16 July 1917 at Messines, in company with 215 Private James Germyn, went out on three occassions into No Man's Land under enemy machine gun and rifle fire and recovered three casualties from near the enemy posts. Again on the morning of 26 July 1917 they carried a severely wounded man, above the front line trench in full view of the enemy, to the Aid Post.
